Summer Hobbies To Try in 2025

Happy Summer Solstice!! I’ve been feeling inspired to pick up a couple hobbies that’ll get me outside and enjoying the sunshine. One thing about me is I have a million different passions and I always like to dip my hands into everything so here’s a list of 10 summer hobbies that have itched something inside my brain and would like to explore more this summer!

Pickleball

The craze of pickleball made it hard for me to get into it at first. It seemed like finding an open court was like trying to get into an exclusive Vegas restaurant - almost impossible. However, now that the craze has calmed down (a bit), I want to pick it up again. There are a few outdoor courts near me I’d like to check out. There are even established indoor pickleball clubs popping up that make it easy to reserve a court although I’d prefer to be outside.

Watercoloring

This one only requires a pad of paper, a couple brushes, a paint set and a cup of water. Watercoloring is so forgiving and you do not need to be an expert to do it. It’s brought me so much peace when I’m feeling anxious. You can gather inspo from your surroundings or look at Pinterest for watercolor ideas.

Camping/Hiking

If you live in Colorado, it’s almost required that you go camping or on a few hikes over the summer. Especially to escape the heat of the city and get in touch with nature. You don’t need to go too far for this one as there are several gorgeous hikes less than 30 minutes from Denver. I definitely want to make an effort to find new hiking trails and camp a few times this summer!

Floral Arranging

I love having fresh flowers at home. I typically go to Trader Joes because they’re the cheapest and they have the most variety but I recently went to a pick-your-own floral garden in northern Colorado and absolutely fell in love with this way of picking flowers, it’s hard to go back to grocery store flowers. Nonetheless, TJ’s makes it convenient to go on a weekly basis. This summer I want to get even more into making my own floral arrangements and really learning how to give them that wow factor.

Golf

Golf became super popular after the pandemic because it’s an outside sport that is accessible to most people. It’s just nice to spend your morning outside (mid-afternoon can be awful in the dead of summer) and driving around on a golf cart with an iced coffee and then ordering a John Daly later on in the day. And honestly, a cute golf outfit makes it all the more fun.

Photography

When I was a sophomore in high school, I saved up to buy my first DSLR camera - a Canon Rebel off of EBay. When I finally did it, I went everywhere with that camera. It really ignited my love for photography. It’s something I don’t do as much now but maybe it’s me getting older, but I’ve been eager to take it out and capturing those beautiful moments once again. Remember when you would make a photo album on Facebook of every little stage in life? Yeah, maybe I’ll bring that back.

Jewelry Making

I’ve been on a charm kick lately. It’s been so fun perusing Etsy and finding charms that I love and working on my craft. You can make charm bracelets, necklaces, bag charms or I’ve even seen shoe charms?! I’d love to have a park day with a couple girlfriends and having a DIY charm day.

Paddleboarding

I recently saw a paddleboard on sale at Costco and I’m thinking of getting it because I love the idea of packing up a paddleboard, a couple sandwiches, maybe a hammock and having an afternoon at the lake. Living in Colorado, there are so many places you can take a paddleboard and enjoy the peace of the water.

Junk Journaling

I’ve been junk journaling this year and absolutely love it. It’s a version of scrapbooking but its made with everything you have found (or junk) from different places you’ve visited. All you need to get started is a journal and a glue stick. Then, anytime you go somewhere like an amusement park or a restaurant, collect whatever you can find to commemorate the moment in your journal!

Air Dry Clay Sculpting

I’ve been seeing so many TikTok videos of airdry clay and I’ve been so intrigued by it. I’ve done wheel throwing ceramics but it wasn’t quite my speed. Airdry clay is more convenient as it hardens at room temperature and is more forgiving for beginners like myself. It doesn’t require too many materials either. You can do it in the comfort of your home or sitting in the backyard.
